At the Taxi Commission
The Taxi
Commission meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30
p.m., in room 400 of City Hall. Special meetings may be scheduled as
needed. The following is a summary of significant commission proceedings
at recent meetings:
June
12
The commission discussed a clean-air policy for taxis and adopted a
resolution establishing goals for achieving significant emissions reductions
in the taxi fleet .
It adopted a Resolution to create a working group to discuss changes
to Proposition K.
It revoked the color scheme permit of Union Cab for numerous violations
of taxi ordinances and rules and regulations. click

June 26
The commission revoked the A-card and medallion of Llewellyn Phelan,
permit #1086, for violations of the state Penal Code
and Municipal Police Code.
It revoked medallions held by Galicha Diosdado (#777),
Jote Kejela (#789) and Lindsey Welcome (#655)
for non-compliance with Section 1095 of the Police Code. Welcome, who
suffered from a debilitating disease, died about the time of the revocation.
According to friends, the revocation may have been a factor in her apparent
suicide.
It adopted a Resolution urging the Board of Supervisors to hold a hearing
on gate and meter increases and a health care plan for cab drivers .
It discussed a Resolution by Supervisor Tom Ammiano relating to Yellow
Cab’s new leases. click

July 13
The meeting was rescheduled from July 10 because of the All-Star baseball
game.
The commission discussed the exterior marking son cabs, continuing the
matter to a future meeting.
It discussed methodology for the taxi availability survey
conducted in connection with public convenience and necessity hearings.
July 24
The commission discussed placing information on the 311 call center
in taxis.
It again discussed the exterior design of taxis and continued the matter
for further discussion .
It revoked the color scheme permit of KSJ Taxi, a one-cab company, for
non-compliance with the Police Code and failing an administrative audit.
