Fee Increases Found Illegal

For the past several years, taxi fees have been going up automatically, in line with the Consumer Price Index. This year those increases were discovered to be illegal .
Under the Police Code, most permit fees increase automatically to keep up with inflation. But not taxi fees, which could only be raised by the Board of Supervisors.
No one noticed this until recently. But after the mistake was caught, the board passed legislation designed to correct the problem retroactively. Even so, Luxor Cab says it wants its money back.

Funny thing: when cab companies claim they’ve been overcharged, no one blinks an eye. But when drivers try to get back what companies have been overcharging them, all hell breaks loose.
