At the Taxi Commission
The Taxi Commission meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m., in room 400 of City Hall. Special meetings may be scheduled as needed. The following is a summary of significant commission proceedings at recent meetings:

February 26
The commission approved a Resolution on the driving requirement for company personnel.

It approved a Resolution supporting legislation introduced by Supervisor Chris Daly pro-rating the driving requirement for medallion applicants during the year the application is heard.

March 11
Paul Gillespie was re-elected as president and Patricia Breslin as vice-president of the commission.

The commission discussed a proposed Resolution setting standards for dispatch services relating to ramp and regular taxis. The proposal would require a minimum of 50 taxis in a dispatch service, and at least four ramp taxis if that service is provided.

March 25
The commission discussed its fiscal year 2009 budget.

It discussed Senate Bill 1519, which would allow for discontinuance of phone service of unlicensed providers of taxi services.

April 8
The commission held a closed session to discuss the city's involvement in pending lawsuits on taxi matters.

It discussed the proposed transfer of the Taxi Commission's powers to the MTA.

It approved the commission's proposed fiscal year 2009 budget as amended.

It upheld the summary suspension of the medallion and A-card of Douglas Wong, who faces criminal weapons charges.

It upheld a hearing officer's decision fining Bay Cab $1,425 for violation of commission rules and ordering the company to obtain workers' compensation insurance for all its drivers within 60 days.

It approved a Resolution supporting SB 1519, allowing discontinuance of phone service of unlicensed providers of taxi services.

April 22
The commission amended its Rules and Regulations to allow the name of a driver of the vehicle to appear on the title and registration of the vehicle, and to require that the names on insurance policies and certificates conform to the title and registration.

May 13
The commission discussed the taxicab camera safety program.

May 27
The commission held a closed session on the hiring of an executive director.

It upheld a hearing officer's decision to suspend the A-card of Thomas Poole for three years on account of reckless driving.

It reinstated the suspended A-card and medallion of Douglas Wong after charges of weapons violations were dropped.

It amended its rules on security cameras and its procedures on taxi wrap applications.

It discussed drafting rules to allow reconsideration of applicants previously denied medallions who might qualify under recently enacted revised requirements.
