Let’s 311 Them to
Death!
What do you do
when you see a limo or town car picking up a passenger on a flag? Or
when you spot one of the same parked in a hotel white zone, waiting
patiently for a signal from the doorman?
If you’re like most drivers, chances are you do nothing. You’ve
got other stuff to think about, like, where are you going to find that
next fare to replace the one that was grabbed from under your nose by
the limo thief?
It’s a pain to report these bandits; for one thing, what’s
the right number to call? There’s one for the Taxi Detail, another
for DPT, and a third for the airport. Besides, you know the chances
of anything being done are pretty slim, and even if that miracle occurs,
it’s not going to get you back the ride you just lost. It seems
like more trouble than its worth.
Well, now there’s another option: 311. This is the city’s
new all-purpose number for information and complaints involving city
departments and services.
Call 311, and they’ll put you through to the appropriate department
to report your complaint. It just takes a minute or two while you’re
looking for that next fare.
Limo violations take place by the thousands each day. Calling them in
every time you spot one may not result in instant gratification, but
it could prove very effective in getting the message across: that is,
we’re experiencing an epidemic of limo lawlessness in this city,
and we, and the riding public, are its victims.
Let’s flood the city with these calls. And then, maybe, finally,
we’ll see the kind of action that’s needed. It’s spelled
E-N-F-O-R-C-E-M-E-N-T.
