At the Taxi Commission
The Taxi Commission meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m., in room 400 of City Hall. Special meetings may be scheduled as needed. The following is a summary of significant commission proceedings at recent meetings:

August 9
The commission met in closed session to discuss a settlement over disputed Veterans Cab corporate medallions, but took no action on the matter.

August 23
The commission approved citations for violations by Bay Cab Co., including failure to provide workers’ compensation insurance.

September 13
The commission voted to support Muni’s efforts to implement a mandatory debit card system for paratransit scrip and encourage efforts to address cab company concerns about the program.

September 27
The commission approved a resolution revoking the A-cards of drivers who failed to pay their annual license fee for 2005. Drivers who requested an amnesty were given until Oct. 3 to pay the fee.
It recommended to the Board of Supervisors the approval of a surcharge on taxi fares to compensate drivers for increased fuel costs.

October 11
A number of drivers paid tribute to Yellow Cab driver and UTW Executive Board member Zareh Soghikian, who was killed two days before with a passenger, Tyler Brown, at Broadway and Webster.

October 25
The commission revoked the A-card of Mohammad Jabari for picking up in San Francisco while driving an out-of-town cab.
It heard a presentation from San Francisco International Airport on a planned automated cashier system.
It held a closed session on the Veterans Cab corporate permits and then in open session approved a settlement of the permit dispute.
