Taxi Pick-ups Pick Up
Taxi pick-ups
at San Francisco International Airport showed a modest increase during
the first nine months of 2004 compared to 2003. But the numbers are
still far below where they were five years ago.
Statistics provided by SFO’s Landside Operations show that the
number of pick-ups increased each month from February through September.
The total for the first nine months of the year was up eight percent,
to 800,712.
But compared to the first nine months of 2000, pick-ups were down by
37 percent. The 470,070 fewer pick-ups represent at least $12 million
in lost driver income. That works out to more than $2,000 per driver
over the nine-month period — without taking into account lost
trips to the airport.
In other words, things are not quite as bad as they were — but
still quite bad nonetheless.
