At the Taxi Commission
The Taxi Commission meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m., in room 400 of City Hall. Special meetings may be scheduled as needed. The following is a summary of significant commission proceedings at recent meetings:

July 27
The commission discussed a proposal for a ballot measure allowing the transfer of taxi permits. (See article.)

August 10
Sgt. Vince Simpson of the SFPD Taxi Detail reported on a two-day sting operation involving doormen at 10 hotels. He stated that there were two attempts to steer passengers to limousines, but no demands for tips.

August 24
The commission revoked taxi medallion # 760, held by Yee Chiu.

September 14
The commission heard a presentation by Aaron Davis, manager for underwriting policy at State Compensation Insurance Fund (State Fund), which provides most workers’ compensation insurance policies for the taxi industry.
It held a closed session on the hiring of a new executive director.
Driver Sayed Hashemipour testified in public comment that he was ticketed by a police officer after being assaulted by passengers.
The commission held a closed session on a proposed settlement of the dispute over Veterans Cab’s corporate permits. (See article.)

September 28
The commission approved a taxi wrap request for 10 Luxor Cabs to advertise Tanqueray Gin.
It approved a new dispatch service, Sunset Cab Dispatch, contingent on a compliance review in 90 days.
Sgt. Simpson of the Taxi Detail reported that a suspect was booked for a taxi robbery in which an attempt was made to strangle the driver. The arrest was made after distribution to police of photos from the cab’s security camera.
The commission approved a resolution amending its Rules and Regulations to require cab companies to keep waybill records and driver rosters for six years, and to furnish copies of waybills to drivers upon request. The new rules will allow for verification of compliance with the extended driving requirement for permit applicants recently enacted by the Board of Supervisors.

October 12
The commission approved a resolution urging the Board of Supervisors to amend the San Francisco Police Code to provide for the inspection of limousine way bills, pursuant to the recently enacted state law, AB 2591.
(See p. 1.)
